Cheadle’s Christmas Celebrations – Light Switch On

Cheadle Community Managed Library was open for business for the Team Cheadle Annual Christmas Light switch on event on Saturday 16th November. Hundreds of people visit and flock to the High Street, aptly this year’s theme was ‘Once Upon a Time’. A Stilt Walker, Fire eater, Punch and Judy Shows were just a few of the attractions. Check out the display of old toys in the photograph – I don’t expect they would be as welcome in a stocking as they once were!

So What?

Taking part in these annual traditions, which do still include a Carnival Queen, is key to getting to know the community. The Cheadle Community Information Resource Group were pleased to take part, promoting the library and it’s prime position on the High Street.

Festive Fun in Staffordshire Libraries

Staffordshire Libraries have been a hive of activity throughout the Festive Season.

With this in mind and the fact this Blog is reported retrospectively, we wanted to share with you some of the community engagement work that has been undertaken throughout December 2018.

Libraries also hosted celebration events with their volunteers to thank them for continued support throughout the year.

Valuing Volunteers!

Volunteers’ Week takes place every year between 1 and 7 June. It’s a national celebration to say thank you for the fantastic contribution that volunteers make every day across the UK.

Staffordshire Libraries use this as a week when we can invite our volunteers to come together to enjoy tea and cake, so we can say a big thank you and well done for all the time they give us.

It also presented opportunities for the volunteers to meet each other in a more informal atmosphere, it is particularly important as many volunteer on different days and at different times.

So What?

We really value the time that our volunteers spend delivering the library service and enhancing the service that we provide, so it’s really important that we recognise this and demonstrate how much we appreciate them.

Library Volunteers are doing an incredible job across the county. It doesn’t take much to say thank you but a few words of praise can really brighten someone’s day!
